How to Find a Car and Driver Service in Europe

How to Find a Car and Driver Service in Europe

We often get questions like these:

  • I need to get from the Dublin airport to my hotel.  How do I do that?
  • Can I get a driver from Venice to Zagreb?
  • I need a driver to get from my hotel in Sorrento to my hotel in Amalfi.  Where do I find one?
  • I would like to go from Paris to Normandy,  but would like to stop for an hour or so in Giverny, the home of Monet, before getting to Normandy.  Can I find someone who can help me?
  • My ship arrives in port Saturday morning.  How do I get a ride to the airport.

The response to these questions can be, “sure, get a car and driver”.   But how do you find a car and driver?  A Google search can ensue, but how do you know the driver is reliable and professional?  How do you know the driver is qualified or even speaks your language?  Are you dealing with a company that if something goes wrong, do you have any recourse?  Do you know what kind of car will be used?  Can you schedule a stopover before arriving at your final destination?  What will the price be?  Where do I find a good car service in Europe?

Fortunately, we have a few solutions for you.  One is best for airport/port transfers.  The other one is well suited for point-to-point transportation between cities.

For Transfers from the Airport to the Hotel:  We like the company Welcome Pickups.  If arriving in Dublin, Edinburgh, Italy, Vienna or just about any European city, they provide reliable transfer service from one point to another.    It’s easy to schedule your ride online.  The price is set at booking, so there are no surprises.   In addition to airport transfers, they will provide in-city touring programs.

For Point-to-Point Transportation:  We used this car service when we needed to get from Trieste, Italy to Zagreb, Croatia, a distance of about 140 miles.  We booked online with DayTrip.com.   We had a choice of cars, and we booked an optional lunch stop in delightful, Slovakia.  The price was reasonable, and the experience exceeded our expectations.  We were picked up on time (in fact the driver was 10 minutes early) at the front door of our hotel in Trieste.  The driver patiently waited for us in Ljubljana.  Then, we were delivered right to the front door of our hotel in Zagreb.   We really enjoyed this car service.
